About Me

I am a licensed psychologist (graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 2011), and have several different courses and further training in psychotherapy, body therapy, dance and movement therapy and trauma therapy. I have several years of experience in private clinical practice – especially in working with young people between 15 and 30. I am currently associated with the private clinic Ungterapi in Copenhagen, and also have my own practice in Copenhagen and Slagelse.

I have an Irish/English background and lived in the USA until I moved to Denmark with my family at the age of 15. I can therefore offer therapy in fluent Danish and English.

My approach and philosophy

When you are sitting across from me, it is my intention to create a space, where you feel welcome and accepted just as you are, with all your emotions, thoughts and reactions. There is room for tears and laughter, words and silence, thoughts, emotions and bodily sensations. I want you to feel comfortable and at home. You may experience that I kick my shoes off, so I can sit cross-legged in my chair, and I invite you to sit however you are most comfortable.

It is important for me to create a space, where you feel safe, seen and heard. I’m not sitting across from you as an expert with all the answers. We are sitting together as equals, where you are the expert on you and your life, and I come with my therapeutic experience and knowledge about psychology. Together we can explore what you want for yourself, and what is getting in the way of you being in the world in the way you would like.

I combine elements from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the client. This includes  aspects from  different psychodynamic approaches, attachment theory, inner child work, cognitive therapy, body therapy, trauma therapy (NARM & Somatic Experiencing), and Coherence Therapy. But my strongest influence comes from NARM (the Neuro-Affective Relational Model) which is specifically developed to treat developmental and relational trauma. This can include everything from complex PTSD to the everyday survival strategies that we all develop, as a response to the environment we grew up in.

How do I know if therapy is for me?

It can sometimes be difficult to make the decision to see a psychologist. Several of my clients – especially young people – express doubts about the extent to which their problems are big or serious enough. But for me, there are no topics that are too small to talk about in therapy. Some of life’s biggest crises stem from a collection of small stressors, worries, or relationship problems that pile up.

We are also all influenced by the experiences we carry with us from the past. We develop survival strategies and ways of being in the world, which may have seemed appropriate or necessary in childhood, but which often come to trouble us later in life.

Talking with a professional and someone, who isn’t our family or friends, can often help us to see new perspectives, disidentify from old strategies, heal old wounds, and find our own path.

Some of the areas I have experience working with are:
  •   Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Low Self-esteem /Self-worth
  • Perfectionism
  • Procrastination
  • Rape/Physical or sexual assault
  • Relational difficulties
  • Trauma, PTSD and complex PTSD (C-PTSD) – relational developmental trauma
  • Attachment issues (or other difficulties stemming from childhood and upbringing)
  • Existential crisis
  • Grief
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Eating disorders and self-harm
  • ADHD and autism
